About

Helen Lowrie Garden Design There is always a great thrill and satisfaction in transforming an under-used or difficult space, into an idyllic, easy-to-maintain, oasis of calm. I create spaces that flow outwards from the house, allowing the garden to become a natural extension of the home. All my designs are sensitively tailored to meet the individual needs of my client, their home, and the surrounding landscape. Designs comprise a bold underlying structure softened with lush planting to provide year-round colour and interest. Environmental elements such as encouraging & protecting wildlife and water conservation are integral to my garden designs. I have particular specialist knowledge of drought and dry-shade tolerant plants (of growing importance whilst climate change and hosepipe bans are becoming more widespread). Recent projects range from large naturalistic wildlife gardens to small contemporary urban roof terraces. I personally monitor garden transformations from conception to completion - and then for a whole year afterwards, to ensure my clients' peace of mind. Process Initial consultation: Upon contacting me I will arrange an initial visit to view your garden and discuss your tastes, ideas and requirements with you. I will subsequently send you a written brief and quotation for design work Site Survey: An accurate survey of the existing garden is needed before any design work can take place. This is undertaken either by myself or, in the case of larger or more complex sites, a land surveyor. Sketch Plan: This is a scale plan of the design layout incorporating everything outlined in the brief together with artists' impressions and supporting visuals to show you how the final garden will look. It acts as a discussion document allowing me to present my ideas and talk through any changes you may wish to make. Presentation Plan: A complete design including specification of materials, levels and indication of planting areas. A landscape contractor will then be able to cost, set out and build the garden from this plan. Construction drawings of specific garden structures, water features or hard surfaces may be required and will accompany the Presentation Plan. Planting Plan: This specifies the exact location and spacing of all the plants, both new and existing, in the design. A corresponding Plant Schedule lists the plant names, sizes and quantities and is used for sourcing, costing, and ordering the plants. Monitoring Service: To secure your peace of mind and to ensure the full potential of the design is achieved I offer an optional monitoring service whereby I can liase with contractors throughout the garden's construction. Planting and Maintenance: Once the garden has been constructed I am able to source, supply and set out all the plants in your garden and organise the planting. I can also prepare easy to understand maintenance guidelines to help you to care for your new garden. Follow-up Consultations: I give complimentary, quarterly, follow-up consultations for one whole year after the garden has been completed. This provides the opportunity to discuss any concerns you may have.....For further information, as well as a look at my portfolio, please visit my website...for a chat call me now on 020 8427 2674.
