The Ark Day Service, also known as the East Midlands Community Service, provides a day service to disabled adults living in Nottingham and the surrounding areas. Staff are trained to provide high quality, tailored and flexible support for people with a range of physical disabilities, learning disabilities and complex health needs.
We can provide support for as much or as little time as you wish; whether it’s for a few hours, a day, an evening, or in a supported living setting for 24 hours a day. We aim to provide you with the support and opportunities you need to lead a fulfilling lifestyle by offering a range of services which are tailored to your needs. You’ll be in control of your support and enabled to make choices and develop your independence.
What we provide is different for every individual, based on their needs and wishes. The people we support can be supported to learn and develop skills in:
• Caring for themselves
• Living independently
• Building and maintaining relationships with friends and family
• Accessing services, resources and activities in the community
At The Ark Day Service, we give disabled adults the opportunity to try a full range of indoor and outdoor leisure and social activities, both individually and as part of a group. This includes:
• arts and crafts
• sensory story bags and rebound therapy
• sessions on computing, cooking and music
• visits to the cinema, bowling, Twycross Zoo, Wollaton Hall and many more
• T.O.Ps (Theatre of Possibilities) - delve in to a world where you can experience the jungle, the beach, space or even a day with the pirates. T.O.Ps is a session run to give you a sensory experience like no other and is hugely popular here at the Ark.
• Sensory cinema - watch your favourite movie, whilst joining in during the film. We bring the movie right to you, as if you are part of the cast.
• Outdoor fun - relax in the sun or play outdoor games with your friends, you can even pull up your sleeves and get green fingered if you wish.
The Ark Day Service is housed in a purpose-built and adapted building, with the use of tracking, fixed and mobile hoists throughout. The service has a music room, clinical room, sensory room, relaxation room and art room along with an accessible communal kitchen and dining area. There is also a large, open plan communal area that customers may use to socialise, or join in with sessional and group activities. There are also three accessible and well adapted bathrooms with ceiling track hoists.
Through our flexible support you’ll gain new skills, confidence and independence. It’s your choice what you’ll do. We support people to find their voice and express themselves, so they are able to show us what truly matters to their lives.
