A blocked bathroom sink creates discomfort while taking a shower. The common cause are hair and soap scum. Foul smell and build up of bacteria should be cleaned thoroughly through the DIY steps listed below;

Tools to Unblock your Sink are;

**Baking soda and white vinegar
**Soda crystals
**Bucket
**Plunger
**Old dish cloth
**Protective gloves

Clean the plughole
Unscrew the plug and remove all the debris and muck that has stuck onto the plug hole.

Seal the plug hole
Cover the plug hole in water to create an airtight seal for the plunger to easily create a vacuum that helps dislodge debris causing blockage.

Block the overflow
By using the old dishcloth place it round making sure there an airtight seal in place.

Use the plunger
Grab the handle of the plunger and place its bottom over the plughole, slowly push the plunger up and down while placing the cloth in an airtight position. The vacuum created should unblock your sink.

Use the baking soda and vinegar
These items come in handy when the plunger fails to sink unblock. Just add a small amount of baking soda into the drain followed by a cup of white vinegar. Wait a little while until fizzing stops.

Pour hot water
Once the baking soda and vinegar have stopped fizzing in the drain, flush down the mixture by pouring a kettle full of boiling water.

Use soda crystals
The soda crystals are used if the plunger and a mixture of baking soda plus vinegar fail. Start by dissolving half a cup of soda crystals in boiling water and pour the solution into the drain to remove grime and soap residue.

Clean the U-bend
If all the methods tried have failed then we clean the u-bend by opening the first bend in the pipe with a bucket underneath to catch any water flowing out.
