Portugal has been described as the last frontier of wine in western Europe and my time living in Portugal certainly revealed the wonderful treasures that Portugal has to offer those wine-lovers in search of new tastes and flavours. Touring round and visiting local wineries and talking with the wine makers I could sense a real passion and desire to bring these wines to the world's attention.
So much of Portugal is under the vine, whether short stumpy ones like those in Douro and Tras-os-montes in the remote northeast or tall vines trained up pergolas or even trees as in Minho ! With the Portuguese wine world going through great changes in recent years I saw a real opportunity to bring Portuguese wines to the UK. What I found was that if you have a favourite go-to wine, whether its Malbec or Shiraz, Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio you will find that Portugal has a fresh alternative that offers great value for money.
