No1 was originally constructed in 1860 as one of five coastguards cottages. We understand it was the Head Coastguard's home. For many years the five cottages stood alone with only the beach between them and the sea. We have been told that boats were once hauled up from the water across the shingle and stood outside the properties - what is the walled private garden. Subsequently the properties were sold off by the MOD in the 1970s with No1 being purchased by the then tenant who worked in the naval establishments in Gosport. We purchased the property back in 1990 and set about refurbishing and modernising it as our home for the next 28 years. We obtained Planning Permission for two further properties, both of which we have since constructed. Having recently moved into our new house next door, 1A, we have redecorated and refurnished No1 as a quality self catering holiday let.
