Schiller Insurance was established in 1951 by founder Robert "Bob" Schiller. Bob was a married, 25 year old furnace salesman here on the western slope when he was approached with the idea of selling insurance, during a pinnochle card game. During the game he was told by a successful insurance agent "You should try to sell insurance.". Bob's reply was, "Well, I don't know anything about insurance. How can I sell it?"He decided he'd give it a try anyway and started of small, selling health insurance policies for $10 a year in the surrounding areas of Montrose. His first day he sold 40-50 policies. Needless to say, he was hooked from that day forward. He thought insurance "Seemed easy enough", so he dropped the furnace business and devoted all his energies to learning insurance. In his attempt to grow a larger book of business, he developed the motto "If it's insurable, we insure it". He thought it necessary to sell as many lines of insurance as he could and this idea grew into the Schiller Insurance of today. With that began a family tradition that has covered over 55 years and we are now in our 3rd generation.
