The Cobbled Yard Hotel We are situated 1 minute from the main thoroughfare of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The hotel is surrounded by the walls and ramparts built in Queen Elizabeth the 1st to protect Berwick. We have a licensed bar and restaurant (with seating for 50) and are open all day, every day. We do cater for functions. Bus Parties by Appointment. By all reports the Hotel was built in the late 1890s, however in 1913 it was redesigned. A local carriage company in Chappel Street found it increasingly difficult to get round the building, so the corner was "cut off" This making the Dining Room and Room 3 rather an odd shape. The bar was called the Rose & Thistle, no doubt to blend in with the area throughout its historical changes between Scotland and England. The original bar mirror is in the bar downstairs, another mirror found in the depths of the cellar hangs in room 4.
