Regulation 18 of Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014. Providers are required to ensure they have enough suitably qualified staff who have the experience and competency to meet the needs of service users. Part of this regulation is to carry out regular supervisions and annual appraisals.
One way to help comply with this regulation is to carry out spot checks on their staff. These unannounced visits are useful in identifying training needs of staff and gives service users the opportunity to discuss any concerns they might have.
