el consejo ejecutivo,
habiendo considerado el informe sobre medicina tradicional,

recomienda a la 56ª asamblea mundial de la salud que adopte la resolución siguiente:
la 56ª asamblea mundial de la salud,
recordando las resoluciones wha22.54, wha29.72, wha30.49, wha31.33, wha40.33,
wha41.19, wha42.43 y wha54.11;
observando que los términos de medicina «complementaria», «alternativa» o «no
convencional» se utilizan para referirse a muchos tipos de servicios de salud no normalizados que
entrañan distintos grados de formación y eficacia;
observando que la denominación «medicina tradicional» abarca una serie de terapias y
prácticas que difieren mucho de un país a otro y de una región a otra;
consciente de que la medicina tradicional, complementaria o alternativa presenta muchos
aspectos positivos, y de que la medicina tradicional y quienes la practican desempeñan una función
importante en el tratamiento de enfermedades crónicas y en la mejora de la calidad de vida de
quienes sufren enfermedades leves o determinadas enfermedades incurables;
reconociendo que los conocimientos de la medicina tradicional son propiedad de las
comunidades y las naciones donde se originaron y que deben respetarse plenamente;
tomando nota de que los principales problemas del uso de la medicina tradicional son la falta
de redes organizadas de prácticos tradicionales y de datos válidos sobre la seguridad, la eficacia y la
calidad de la medicina tradicional, y la necesidad de medidas para asegurar el buen uso de la
medicina tradicional y para proteger y conservar los conocimientos tradicionales y los recursos
naturales necesarios para aplicarla de manera sostenible, y de que los prácticos de medicina
tradicional reciban formación y se les otorguen licencias para ejercerla;
