Our philosophy…The Bear Clinic uses Integrative Psychiatry combining conventional and alternative methods of psychiatric care to help individuals function at their optimal level.
Using alternative, non-pharmaceutical treatments, practitioners at the Bear Clinic can enhance the effectiveness of traditional psychiatric medication and in some cases curtail the use of these medications.
At the Bear Clinic, our Integrative approach includes, but is not limited to, the following:
The natural healing power of the person.
Integrative Psychiatry assumes that the body has an innate capacity for healing, self-repair and adaptation to injury, loss or stress. The goal of therapy would be to foster and support that innate capacity.
Whole person medicine.
Integrative medicine views patients as more than physical bodies. They are mental, emotional and spiritual beings that are productive members of society. These other dimensions of life are relevant to health and to the accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of illness.
The importance of lifestyle.
Health and illness result from interactions between one’s genes and all other aspects of lifestyle, including diet, physical activity, rest and sleep, stress, the quality of relationships, work, and so on. Lifestyle choices influence illness and the management of these factors can be helped through Integrative Psychiatry.
The role of the caretaker-patient relationship.
Having a person listen closely to the patients’ story can dramatically enhance healing. Unfortunately, today many doctors or therapists spend little time with patients. Due to this limited amount of time, it is very unlikely a therapeutic relationship that fosters overall health and healing will be formed.
