Der ansässige Adel nutzte einst die Kirche als Grablege, wovon noch heute zahlreiche Grabsteine zeugen. Aus vorreformatorischer Zeit stammen die Grabplatten der Burgherren Heinrich und Caspar von Boyneburg. Nachreformatorisch ist die Grabplatte der Emilia Leonhardt am übergang zwischen Chor und Langhaus von 1588. An der Südwand erinnern Grabplatten aus dem 17. Jahrhundert an die aus Magdeburg stammende Familie von Guericke.Als Grablege ist die Kirche ein Ort des Totengedenkens. Im Zentrum steht Christus, der den Tod überwunden hat. Auf ihn richten sich alle Hoffnungen der Sterblichen. In vorreformatorischer Zeit dienten die Hinterbliebenen mit Seelenmessen, Opfergaben und Gebeten den Verstorbenen.
