Die Kirche aus dem späten 12. Jahrhundert wird durch engagierte Saalborner seit einigen Jahrzehnten Schritt für Schritt renoviert.
Dabei wurde die 2. Empore abgebaut - ebenso die Orgel, die bis dato bis unter der hölzernen Tonnendecke verschwand - sie wird z. Zt. restauriert und findet dann auf der 1. Empore ihren neuen Platz. Durch den Abbruch der 2. Empore hat die Kirche überraschend und erfreulich stark an Akkustik gewonnen.
Die Orgel wurde 1834 von Christian Adam Gerhard erbaut, 2011- 2013 von den Orgelbaumeistern Schönefeld aus Stadtilm umfassend restauriert und verfügt über 2 Manuale, Pedal und 12 Register. Ihre Wiedereinweihung wurde
