Research has shown that playing music activates many parts of the brain and contributes to cognitive development. Our students will begin the process of activating their brains by venturing through creative avenues and encountering fun and enjoyment along the way.
Aside from producing excellent musicians, our aim is to produce people of excellence. To excel in music, students must learn to embrace and embody discipline, patience, and commitment as they dedicate themselves to mastering a musical instrument. We do not believe in shortcuts and will work diligently with our students to identify and develop good character that overflows beyond musicianship to other areas of life.
Music education engages many parts of the brain. A commitment to music training is a commitment to brain training, and students will exercise and strengthen connections between brain regions and improve memory, brain structure, and function. Individuals who receive music training are more likely to show increased performances in academic achievement, verbal intelligence, and focused attention.
Music benefits an individual’s mental health and wellness. Studies have shown that playing music can lower levels of anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Music and music therapy have also been successful in improving focus, reducing hyperactivity, and strengthening social skills for children with ADHD.
The lessons that we teach are meant to follow our students after they leave our classrooms. We introduce each student to tools for lifelong growth and challenge them to master the use of these tools in every aspect of their lives. Our hope is for our students to grow into teachers who will make significant contributions to their own communities and attract their own classroom of students to foster a continuous cycle of lifelong growth.
