About Dr. Golan
Elan Golan, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon with expertise in the diagnosis and management of athletic injuries. Practicing out of the Northside Orthopedic Institute’s offices in Hamilton Mill, Snellville, and Lawrenceville, Georgia, Dr. Golan offers cutting-edge techniques to treat hip pain, knee pain, shoulder pain, and other types of pain caused by sports injuries. While specifically trained to care for high-level athletes, Dr. Golan is excited to return home to Georgia to provide care for patients of all ages and activity levels.
After graduating with honors from the University of Georgia, Dr. Golan earned his medical degree at The George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC, and underwent residency training at Maimonides Medical Center in New York City. He completed his sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious UPMC/University of Pittsburgh program, where he was mentored by the famed anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery specialist Freddie Fu and Pittsburgh Steelers Team Physician Dr. James Bradley. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Golan was invited to a FIFA institute of excellence in London, England, where he was mentored in hip arthroscopy and preservation.
During his training, Dr. Golan worked as an assistant physician for professional sports teams, including the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers and the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins. He also has collegiate-level experience working as a team physician for The University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University, where he covered football, soccer, baseball, and gymnastics.
Dr. Golan is pleased to provide advanced arthroscopic techniques for the knee, shoulder, hip, and elbow. He routinely performs evaluations for injury prevention with activities such as overhead throwing as well as swings related to racket sports such as golf and tennis.
Dr. Golan has a specific interest in ACL reconstruction and offers specialty techniques such as a quadriceps-based ACL graft. He also performs innovative shoulder and elbow procedures such as SLAP/labral repair and ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction (Tommy John surgery). Additionally, Dr. Golan is one of only a handful of Metro Atlanta surgeons to offer the MACI-based cartilage reconstruction procedure.
As a sports medicine specialist, Dr. Golan’s primary goal is to help patients return to an active and pain-free life. He offers sports-specific consultations and treatment planning based upon each patient’s individual goals and expectations for their recovery.
