About Kira BloomMeaningful connections energize Kira Bloom. After spending a few years working in tech and marketing, she made the decision to return to graduate school at the University of Denver to study social work and fulfill her passion for helping people. “I try to empower people to determine their needs and live a healthy life on their terms,” she says. “I love the flexibility of social work and the various ways it can impact people: from therapy to policy work to resource navigation, it’s a model that strives for positive change through values-driven work.”
Kira chose to work at Beacon, moving from Colorado to South Bend, because she is excited about the variety in perspectives that come with the organization. “I love learning about the medical side of mental health [and] appreciate working collaboratively to ensure I’m able to provide the best care for patients,” she says.
Through caring for people, she has learned to be resilient and to keep a sense of humor. She hopes her patients feel allowed to ask for what they need. Helping them get where they want to go and to feel supported along the way is her goal as a practitioner.
In treating people, Kira has learned to keep boundaries and to balance being empathetic with providing direct and honest communication. “If I’m not able to care for my own needs, I can’t help support others,” she says.

Who is or was the most influential people/role models in your life? My parents
What was your first job growing up? What do you remember about it? I worked at Subway in college and won’t ever be able to forget the smell. It permeated my clothes, my hair and my car.
What is your favorite food? Movie? What was your best/worst subjects in school growing up? My favorite food is ice cream. My favorite movie is Office Space. My best subject in school was English and my worst was math.
If you could sit down to dinner with anyone (alive or deceased) who would it be and why? My grandpa. I would love to get to know him as an adult and to learn from his life experiences.
What are your hobbies, interests? Baking, hiking, traveling, eating, caring for my plants
Do you have any pets? Yes, I adopted a dog a few years ago. He’s a good boy.
What is something most people don’t know about you? I recently moved to South Bend from Colorado.
