Since graduating from St. John's University in central Minnesota, I worked for the Boy Scouts, worked with juveniles as a social worker, married, went to law school at the University of Minnesota and graduated cum laude, worked in the litigation department of a general practice firm, became a father, and worked as an adjuster and as an attorney for an insurance company. In 2007, I moved to Lodi with my wife and twin children and opened my own law firm, the Mayer Law Office, in the Spring Creek Business Center in downtown Lodi. My firm handles a wide variety of legal work and cases in Lodi and the surrounding area, including Wills and Trusts, family law cases, personal injury claims, real estate transactions, and more. I addition to my legal practice, I am active in the Lodi community. I coach and sponsor a girl's youth softball team, the "legal eagles," and volunteer with Boy Scout Troop 113. Mediation is a process in which a neatral third party is retained to assist two or more parties in resolving their disputes. Mediation is less expensive than litigation, and often results in a more acceptable solution for involved parties. How much do you charge for your services? I charge $125 per hour of work on a case. Where appropriate (Wills, Trusts, simple cases, etc.) I charge a flat fee. In general, my rates compare favorably with those charged by other attorneys for similar services. Do you require a retainer? Yes. A retainer is a sum of money paid when my services are engaged and held in a trust account. Each month, I deduct my fees and expenses from said account. After my services are no longer required, I return what's left of the original retainer. My retainer amounts vary from $1500 to $3000 depending on the type of work involved. Typically, I do not require a retainer in matters where I charge a flat fee. Do you take cases outside of the Lodi area? Yes, but only if the case is located in Wisconsin.
